This week’s theme is to be green – a good reminder for everyday actually – for St. Patrick’s Day. So today I bring you picture books that take you from meadows and forests to gardens both real and imagined! These green-covered books celebrate growth, connection, and the wonder of seeing the world in full bloom.

For this week’s Top Ten Tuesday
Everything Green!
Green….
- Andrew Henry’s Meadow. In this classic, a boy builds magical homes for his friends in a meadow alive with imagination. I just read it recently and love it!
- The Big Book of Birds. A vibrant introduction to birds around the world, filled with fascinating facts and illustrations, makes a great gift for bird-lovers of all ages. Plus, I love that it is part of a series, each one as rich as this one is.
- Deep in the Forest: A Seek-and-Find Adventure. Lushly illustrated and rich in details, this book, like the subtitle implies, is full of hidden surprises. Sure to delight readers of all ages. I am always a sucker for books like this.
- Eyes That Weave the World’s Wonders. If you loved Joanna Ho’s Eyes That Kiss in the Corners, you will love this lyrical celebration of how children see beauty in the everyday.
- Home in the Woods. Eliza Wheeler is one of my go-to author/illustrators, one whose books I will pick without a second thought. This one is a stunningly beautiful heart-string puller.
- I Am a Dragon! A Squabble & A Quibble. A playful tale about imagination, identity, and friendship.
- A Leaf Can Be… .Another author I will read any day – Laura Purdie Salas. This one is a lyrical exploration of the many roles a single leaf can play in our world.
- On Our Way! What a Day! A joyful, rhythmic story following a family’s love-filled day which shows the journey can be everything in a delightful way.

Greener…?
- The Green Kingdom. A magical, riddle-filled adventure where a girl discovers a hidden world of wonder.
- John Ronald’s Dragons. A glimpse into the childhood passions that shaped J.R.R. Tolkien’s imagination. And the illustrations by Eliza Wheeler are a stunning accompaniment to Caroline McAlister’s storytelling about a great storyteller!
- The Little Green Girl. Oh my! This is an oh-so-cute and whimsical story about belonging and staying true to yourself.
- Rivers: A Visual History from River to Sea. I love Peter Goes’ stunning visual journey through how rivers shape our world.
- Ruby Finds a Worry. A compassionate story about anxiety and the power of sharing, great for SEL lessons. Another book you can use with this is Is a Worry Worrying You?
- The Sour Grape. This series of books is such a powerful series to help children grapple with big emotions. In this, we learn a funny, meaningful lesson about letting go of grudges and finding joy again.
- Greenglass House – A mysterious winter tale filled with secrets, storytelling, and unexpected friendship.
- The Secret Garden: A Graphic Novel – A beautifully illustrated retelling of a timeless story about healing and renewal.
- Wild Places: The Life of Naturalist David Attenborough. An inspiring biography of the man who brought the wonders of nature to the world. One of my favorite reasons to read picture books – I have learned so much about so many amazing people – both famous and the not-so-famous ones.
- The Wild Robot. Kind-of-green cover…but I had to include it. You might have seen the movie already, now you can read the book too!
