Simply Sundays – my poetry then and now

I realized it has been years since I tried to write a poem (unless you count the ones I make up for every event evite at home – kids birthdays, Navaratri golu, other events)..

This is something I found in my diary I wrote a long while ago while I was still a kid – when it was still the 19….’s (presented here with no changes):

Silent Melodies (then):
A little bird sang sweetly in the woods;
the silence in the woods thus had a brief respite.
The trees decided to join in too
and swayed gently as the wind blew.
The crickets in the grass, and the bees who
were busy in their little world,
the stream that went bubbling through
were all, as always, eager too;
and as the moon came out from
behind the curtain of the clouds
garlanded by twinkling beautiful stars,
they all broke together into a wonderful song
composed by a musician unknown;
and then silence was busy again….

I thought about how it will be if I rewrite this poem in today’s scenario for me, with my little ones around me all the time and this is my attempt at this:

Silent Melodies (now):
A little bird sang sweetly in the woods;
(was it silence it heard for a second,
but when it opened its beak, it was mistaken)
it struggled to be heard over the chaos.
The trees decided to join in too
and cheered the bird on with their ‘pep-sway’
The crickets and the frogs
joined in in the cacophony..
and as the moon came out from
behind the curtain of the clouds
garlanded by twinkling beautiful stars, (this still is true, thankfully, where i live)
they all broke together into a medley of sounds
aided by amateur musicians at home;
and silence (which had tried to establish itself) sighed as it was drowned again….
