For dVerse OpenLinkNight and my own Yummy Tummy Tuesday, I have – ‘A Recipe in Rhyme – South Indian Pulao’
– South Indian Pulao
This does call for ingredients more than a few
Ghee – a tablespoon will do
With couple of tsps of oil too
and one each of a cardamom, bay leaf, inch cinnamon, and a clove.
Then come the veggies galore
Half an onion – chopped fine, 2 green chillies or as per taste, maybe more
Two full cups of chopped mixed veggies –
Carrots, potatoes, beans, and peas
And of course, don’t forget – this is pulao
Two cups of basmati rice for this and wow –
a cup of coconut milk (or less if you wish) will do wonders
When added to a couple (two) cups of water.
Salt is essential as always
For any such recipe as per taste.
Pretty simple this – no need for hook or crook
Heat the ghee and the oil in a pan
Add the spices I mentioned in line three and then
In goes the onion and chillies
And when translucent, in go the veggies
Let them steam and stew for a while
(maybe five minutes will suffice)
Add the rice to this mix and
Stir awhile (about 2-3 mins) until all the flavors blend
Now, add the coconut milk and water
Add salt to taste and a final stir later
Leave it to cook in a rice cooker
Tada – the South Indian style pulao is ready
Serve with vengaya thayir pachadi
I am reading Chloe’s Vegan Desserts (digital ARC and it is mouth-watering!) and have made a couple of recipes from the book. I will be posting the review next week after trying out a few more from this delicious book.
The Blondies I made last week were an instant hit with family – my kids loved them – and I took a few to friends at work who enjoyed them as well – so hope I can move on to trying out couple other recipes before getting back to this well-loved one..
NaBloPoMo Prompt for today:
Come up with a creative plan (and no, it doesn’t have to be realistic and
scientifically-based — toddler on a hamster wheel, anyone?) to create energy
once we use up our fossil fuels.
Self powered homes – you exercise to power your home , at least partly 🙂 so the healthier you and
your family are, the more power you have to use. And even in buildings like
offices/schools/libraries, the energy from walking should be converted to energy
to at least power up the lights. (and this is a little realistic – I read about
street lamps in London being setup to be powered by the many Olympics visitors walking the pavements last year).
Top Ten Theme over at the Broke and Bookish for this week: Top Ten Settings I’d Like To See More Of (Or At All) — (maybe
you want read more books set in space or books set in Alaska or the beach)
Victorian England – Historical romances set in this period are among my favorites
Hogwarts – Of course, why not!
Fairyland – I love books set in any fairy tale setting – books written by Enid Blyton first introduced me to this, and now there is so much more I have read (books for kids and adults too set in fairy land settings)
Middle Earth – Another favorite setting where I would love to see more books
The San Francisco Bay Area – I would love to read more books set in the place where I live.
Virtual worlds – Books set in worlds like in The Matrix, Inception
Planes, trains, and automobiles – Books with a setting of a trip by planes, trains, or automobiles!
Current time India – Between #2 and this, I am just saying I love reading books set in India
of regular people – No exotic locales or professions but books set in everyday locations of the everyday person.
For Teaser Tuesdays over at Should Be Reading – from pg 45 of the digital RC of ‘The Man of Steel: Superman and The Poisoned Planet‘
‘Can’t blame them for being surprised, he thought. Not many people get to see Superman sweat.’

I love Indian food of any kind.. The spices are 'to die for.' One can savor the smells alone. Now you have me hungry. Neat idea to write a recipe in rhyme. You accomplished it beautifully.
haha now that is something I never spun, a rhyming recipe run, oh so fun and wonderfully done.
Very clever! Well done.
