A Little Magic

Farmhouse

Farmhouse by Sophie Blackall |  Children’s Farm Life Books / Historical (4+ years) | Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (September 13, 2022)

Description: Based on a real family and an actual farmhouse where Sophie salvaged facts and artifacts for the making of this spectacular work, page after page bursts with luminous detail and joy.

My Mini-review

I read another of Sophie Blackall’s books (Ruby’s Wish) years ago, and it remains one of my favorites, and so very fresh in my memory! This book is now added on to that list of my favorites as well. You

Blackall’s skill in weaving magic with words and art is felt throughout the book as readers are taken back to life in this charming farmhouse where the love and life that filled it years ago still envelops all who enter it. And now extended to all the readers who read this beautiful book. Once you read it, you will find delightful details on every page, and discover something surprising as you read and finally reach the end (and I am not talking about the totally interesting backstory for this book or the photographs of the farmhouse that inspired it!)

Knight Owl

Knight Owl by Christopher Denise | Children’s Friendship Books (3 – 5 years, and up) | Christy Ottaviano Books (March 15, 2022)

Description: A determined Owl builds strength and confidence in this medieval picture book about the real mettle of a hero: wits, humor, and heart.

My Mini-review

Can cuteness get any cuter? This is an adorable book where the magic of friendship, wordplay, and big-heartedness fills the pages; and yes, the most beautiful artwork too! Plus, there is something to find across the pages hidden in the illustrations sure to occupy and delight readers of all ages.

The Cybils Magic

Both these books are finalists in the Cybils Fiction Picture Books category. I enjoyed them both thoroughly and will be reading and reviewing more books in this and other categories over the next few weeks. Plus, I will review books in the category that I am a round 2 judge in (non-fiction) after the winners are announced next month. But before that, I have to finish reading all the books

On a Monday Ages Ago

In a twin calendar year years ago, I wrote a poem linking it towards dVerse Poets Pub, and as I looked at it today, realized the words always ring true! Here is the poem and the picture that inspired it

Together
together we walk
towards hope, a bright new day,
together makes
the dreariest rain a time to play,
together means
no one ever stays down
together means
smiles always outweigh the frown
together makes
all of us ‘mes’ into a strong WE
together we walk
forward into beauty

– Vidya Tiru, 2017

And here is Alley Saunders’ ‘New Beginnings’ that inspired ‘Together’ today.  You can check out all the wonderful artwork and see what inspires you too over at dVerse

“My paintings and my processing comes from my core, feels like soul work, my passion for understanding Family Patterns, all our humanness, relationships and most importantly myself.” ~Alley Saunders~

And Now, the End of This Post

Dear reader, have you read any of these books? Or similar ones?

This post goes towards It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? and the Ultimate Blog Challenge. Granted I missed a few days and catching up now but decided to catch up only on a few of the skipped/missed days (the ones this week of Jan 9th, 2023)
